Thurs Night
Today was another wonderful day at camp. The day was filled with lots of game and a much deserved sleep in period that gave everyone a little more energy. The day started with waking up at 0800, instead 0700, and then proceeded onto breakfast and cabin clean up time. (Maybe by the time the kids get home they’ll be so used to cleaning up their room after breakfast that they will continue to do it during the school year!!!) For the counselors today was considered our “day off” and we were gifted with a 2 hour break from the kids and got to go get coffee or just take a nap, which we gladly accepted. The kids went off to their morning chapel as usual and then out for recreation. This recreation was different then the rest and we just played a huge game of dye-wars with the whole meadow ranch camp. The kids got red dye all over them, and so did the counselors for that matter. Afterwards there was a giant slip and slide competition, in which Melinda participated; however she landed on her face instead of the raft. She looked like Santa at the end due to all the soap on her face. For lunch today we had a picnic on the meadow and then we went off to free time. For free time today most of the kids came with Melinda, Michelle, and me (drew) down to the cove and went for a hike up the river. It was a gorgeous sight to behold. The remainder of the day was spent eating dinner and then attending a concert by The Hank Murphy band, followed by chapel and then a little bit of ranch time and a skateboard competition that was entertaining to watch. By the end of the day most of the kids were worn out, but definitely all of the counselors were ready for bed.

Wed Night
This has been a fun day in Meadow Ranch! Recreation today was Super Spirit Relay day. Everyone wore tabards and moustaches, participating in 5 different relays and had a great time. During free time we had a big group go to the high ropes course. Those of us going to high ropes on Friday walked around the lake to the cove where the kids went down a waterfall rock slide. Tonight’s belly flop contest in the pool was super funny. We are looking forward to a fun night game tonight after chapel and night swim. The speakers have been insightful, challenging us to deepen our faith and strengthen our relationship with Jesus. Tonight the speaker will talk to us about living a life of gratitude, thanksgiving and praise. Hume is awesome, truly heaven on earth.

Tuesday Night
The day started off again with the kids up and ready for another full day of adventures. After breakfast we went to chapel to see more of the continuing story of Remi and Philippe. Remi, in his focus to serve only himself, ends up killing a man in the marketplace. He was sent to the prison to await the guillotine. When reality sunk in of what he had done he starts to plead and with he could do things differently by serving the Dauphin. The Dauphin hears about this and visits Remi, setting him free and giving him a second chance at life. Blown away by this gift of grace Remi doesn’t know what to do. But the Dauphin instructs him that he will be trained by a fellow follower as he learns to start serving the dauphin.
After that the staff broke us up into smaller groups and took us on a short hike and where they shared their own story of how God reached their lives and what they have learned in following him. It was great to connect and get to know the faces around camp a little more.
Then came recreation. Today each team played the two games they didn’t play the day before. The enthusiasm was high as each team tried to earn more points to become the champions of the week. After rec came lunch and free time. Today we had paintball and majority of our group went to participate. For some this was their first time trying paintball, for others of our group, they seemed quiet experienced. I had a lot of boys threatening to shoot me (Melinda) regardless of what team I was on. We played one game where the goal was to get a teammate into one of the barricades without getting hit by the other team. We also played capture the flag. Any kids that have paintballs leftover in their guns are taken to a target range to empty their gun. Counselors can go in there and dodge the paintballs as the kids shoot. Drew and I were crazy enough to do it, which gave the kids the pleasure of being able to have an opportunity to shoot at their leaders.
After paintball the kids split up to enjoy free time. Some went to the pond and went off the blob or Noah’s nightmare. Others went the stores or snack shop. Others just hung out and played cards. After free time we then went to dinner and then to evening competitions. Tonight’s competitions were the blob and Noah’s nightmare belly flop contest. Each rec team had a student and counselor participate in both. The blob competition was to send each student off the blob. Judging was based on height, charisma, and flips. Noah’s nightmare belly flop contest is pretty self-explanatory. It was fun hearing the audience groan or awe as participants smacked the water.
After the pond competitions we had evening chapel where Ron went into detail of what all went on during the crucifixion. As he shared about the pain and suffering that Jesus went though, he showed how much God loved us to send His son Jesus to go through that for us. Students were given the opportunity for those who have never accepted Christ to make that decision for the first time tonight. We had a few of our students decide to make that commitment. Praise Jesus!
Because it was more of an emotional night some students hung back to talk to leaders, others went to night free time. Dodge ball was offered that night which made a lot of students days to be able to participate. After that we headed to our cabins for small groups and to head to bed. It was definitely a packed day but everyone had a great time.
