We exist to reach students, to help them share in God's word, to care for one another and to offer their lives in service to Christ.

Friday
Friday was a great last day but it went by quickly. After breakfast we went to chapel where the detective found out that Phoenix was alive and that death cannot stop him. After that we had recreation where teams competed in the Hume version of the “amazing race.”
After rec, we had lunch and free time. Most of the students tried to fit as much as they could in their last day of Hume. Afterwards we had a bbq dinner on the meadow and then went to chapel. Daren challenged us in needing to take the message of Jesus home with us and share it with those who have not heard about Jesus yet. From there we went to a place called Victory Circle which is an outdoor amphitheater with a campfire where students had the opportunity to share about how they experienced Jesus this week. It was a great way to end the week.
Thursday
Thursday we a sleep in day where we were given an extra hour of sleep. We then had breakfast and chapel. Chapel was an impactful one where Phoenix Dark ends up getting executed. Our detective finds out though that Phoenix died willingly which confuses the detective of why he would be willing to die willingly.
After chapel, we had recreation. Today was dye wars! The two major teams (cops and robbers) were given different color dye to throw at each other. It’s a fun game and everyone ends up having a tie dye tshirt afterwards. After that we watched our teams compete in a huge slip n slide competition. We then had a bbq on the meadow for lunch. After that we had free time. A lot of our group either did paint ball or high ropes, others went to the lake and rented a boat.
After free time and dinner, there was a concert by our worship band- the Hank Murphy Band. Then we had chapel where Daren talked about how Jesus died for us. He then gave an opportunity for students to accept Christ for the first time if they have never done so. We had some students take that step and others who just wanted to renew their relationship with Jesus. It was a great night!
Wed
By Wed we were in the routine of camp. We started off with breakfast and morning chapel. This morning the detective figured out that with Phoenix Dark you are either in you are out- there is no maybe. We looked at stories of Judas and Peter that morning as well.
After Chapel we had recreation where we did a bunch of different relay games. After that we had lunch and free time. Most of Saint Matthew went to the other side of the lake to swim and hang out for most of free time. After free time we had dinner and then watched the pool belly flop contest. Our out TJ and Jessica ended up getting the highest scores of the night!!
After that we went to Chapel and then had a night game where the students tried to get tokens back to chapel. All of the counselor’s job was trying to stop and slow down the students while they searched for the tokens. After that the students could have a night swim at the pool or free time and then we headed to cabins.
Tuesday
Tuesday was another great day of camp. In the continuation of Phoenix Dark the detective figures out that Phoenix (Jesus) is too important to ignore. After chapel, we went to recreation where our teams played the opposite games we did yesterday. From there we went to lunch and then had free time. Many of the kids enjoyed the Blob and Noah’s nightmare.
After free time we had dinner and then we went to the pond for the blob competition and the belly flop competition off of Noah’s nightmare. From there we had evening chapel where Daren continued to talk about the play and the importance of Jesus. After that we had a bit more free time and then went to our cabins for devotions and bed.
Monday
Monday was an awesome first day. We had a continuation of the story of Phoenix Dark. A detective is investigating him and heard two stories of how people encountered him. One story was how we has asleep in a burning building and when part of his group woke him up, he made all the fire disappear. The detective also heard a story about how he helped and healed an outcast women. We then had a bit of church time together as Saint Matthew, and then we got ready for recreation. The recreation teams are the “cops” and “robbers” this year. We all participated in two of the “big four” recreation activities today. The rec games included a human side version of hungry hippo, a gladiator game where you had a vest of dice velcroed on and a pool noodle and the object was to knock off other peoples dice before you lost yours. Another game was four way tug or war and the other was dark soccer. After that we went to lunch and then had free time. A lot of group had the opportunity to do high ropes today. The high ropes was stepping out of the comfort zone for some and others loved it. Others explored camp or went to the lake or pond for free time.
We then had dinner and a little bit more free time. Afterwards we went to chapel where we heard Daren speak about how not only is Jesus fully God, he is also fully human. Processing who Jesus is has lead to some great discussions in cabin devotion time.
It was definitely a great, full first day of camp!
Sunday
Sunday was a great first day for all of us. We had a good drive up to camp, took time to get settled into our cabins, had dinner, and then went to chapel. The opener for the week at Chapel was awesome. The theme was “Phoenix Dark.” Phoenix Dark is a mysterious man who comes into a town filled with gangsters and a corrupt cops and helps people who have no one to turn to. It is based in the 1920s and they had lots of fun music and swing dancing. Through the opener and our speaker Daren, we leaned how Phoenix Dark represents Jesus in many ways. This first day we focused on how Jesus is fully God. We then had cabin devotions and went to bed excited for the next day.
